I paint women in worlds shaped by their own thoughts, feelings and imagination. I am interested in how our inner state influences the way we see the world, and why the same reality can look entirely different to each of us.

I am Anna Boart, a self-taught artist originally from Russia. I have been living in Italy since 2013, where an irresistible love for painting was born within me.
My early work was rooted in realism. Portraits taught me patience and attention to detail, while still lifes taught me to observe how light passes through glass and time seems to pass through wood. This experience became the foundation for the further development of my artistic practice.

Before dedicating myself fully to painting, I worked for many years in interior design. This experience continues to influence my sense of colour, balance and composition, as well as my attention to the relationship between an artwork and the space around it.
In recent years, my artistic practice has evolved towards contemporary figurative painting. I work primarily in oil on canvas, building my paintings through multiple layers of paint. Depending on the concept, I incorporate additional materials such as marble dust, pumice, mineral textures and translucent gel glazes. These allow me to create layered, tactile surfaces in which the material qualities of the painting are as important as the image itself. I also pay attention to how paintings interact with their surroundings and change under different lighting conditions.
My artistic practice explores how individual perception, thoughts, feelings and imagination shape our understanding of the world. These themes are developed through different series, each with its own visual language and conceptual direction.
In The Memory of Becoming, I explore the relationship between women and the natural world. My current series, Perfectly Normal, explores another aspect of this theme: women inhabit worlds where the familiar sits alongside the impossible, and everything that happens feels entirely natural to them.
Through painting, I seek to give visual form to what usually remains within our perception: thoughts, feelings and imagination, which can transform the way we see the world around us.

I am interested in how our inner state influences the way we see the world, and why the same reality can look entirely different to each of us.
In my work, I explore individual perceptions of reality, where the imagined can take on a tangible form and the impossible can feel completely natural to the woman experiencing it.
Through female figures, I create situations in which the boundary between the familiar and the unfamiliar is shaped not by external circumstances, but by the way each woman perceives what is happening around her.
